“Kendi Gölgesinde” (In Its Own Shadow), a group exhibition drawn from the Arter Collection, invites visitors to explore the relationships that artworks form with one another and with the space around them.
Organised around thematic dualities such as inside and outside, public and private, presence and absence, memory and forgetting, void and body, the collection exhibition “Kendi Gölgesinde” examines the in-between zones that arise from the relationships between these pairs. Featuring works by 25 artists, the exhibition is made up of two sections spanning Arter’s entrance and level -1 galleries.
With qualities such as invisibility, uncertainty, secrecy and ambiguity, the works selected from the Arter Collection invite visitors on a mental journey, encouraging them to seek out what remains in the shadows and to enrich their own intellectual and emotional experiences.
These works often bring ordinary or everyday objects and situations to the fore through unexpected interventions such as transforming, darkening, reducing, repeating or displacing them. Through the interactions and affinities they create within the space, they offer a hazy perspective geared towards discovering new meanings.
Realised with the support of Yapı Kredi, “Kendi Gölgesinde” can be visited free of charge in Arter’s entrance and level -1 galleries. The exhibition features works by artists including Hüseyin Bahri Alptekin, Mirosław Bałka, Pedro Barateiro, Michał Budny, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, Jae-Eun Choi, Cevdet Erek, Terry Fox, Hreinn Friðfinnsson, Bilge Friedlaender, Deniz Gül, Mona Hatoum, Rolf Julius, Nadia Kaabi-Linke, Šejla Kamerić, Borga Kantürk, Mohammed Kazem, Inge Mahn, Ferhat Özgür, Seza Paker, Pinaree Sanpitak, Chiharu Shiota, Yaşam Şaşmazer, Hema Upadhyay and Nika Zupančič.
