Prime Video has announced the presenters of the new season of The Grand Tour. Francis Bourgeois – known as a trainspotter and a secret car enthusiast – will be the new faces of the show, alongside James Engelsman and Thomas Holland, the award-winning creators of the YouTube phenomenon “Throttle House”.
Across this six-episode, globe-trotting new series, the trio will tackle the motoring world’s most topical and most absurdly delightful questions in some of the planet’s toughest terrain.
Two years after Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May took their final drive into the sunset in Botswana, The Grand Tour returns with a new series promising big adventures, serious horsepower and plenty of laughs. From a gruelling journey in track cars across the Angolan desert to exploring Malaysia’s vibrant car culture and heading to California to test America’s newest and most powerful performance cars, the adventure takes the show into a new era. Produced by Studio Lambert, the new season honours the show’s legacy while carrying it into a new chapter.
Francis Bourgeois says: “The phrase ‘big shoes to fill’ springs to mind. But in this case it’s more like Mo Farah running in size 46 wellies – a bit awkward at first and possibly blister-inducing, but ultimately an experience worth watching.” James Engelsman adds: “I’ve been making car films with Thomas for almost a decade. Who knew the one ingredient missing all this time was Francis Bourgeois? Let the motoring adventures begin.”
Thomas Holland puts his feelings with characteristic humour: “When I first heard The Grand Tour was being made again, with others replacing Clarkson, Hammond and May, I said, ‘Only an idiot would take that job.’”
Tara Erer, Head of Originals for the UK and Northern Europe at Prime Video, says: “The Grand Tour is Prime Video’s most-watched unscripted UK series worldwide. So finding the right names was no easy task, but we have put together a team beyond our expectations. After an extensive search, we’re thrilled to hand the keys to Thomas, James and Francis, who stood out. Each brings fresh energy and an original perspective to the show while preserving the brand’s spirit of adventure and camaraderie.”
Mr Wilman comments: “We’re genuinely happy to pass the baton to Thomas, James and Francis because they do it properly. Not only do they have the passion and the knowledge, they’re also not carbon copies of the old trio. They have their own very enjoyable chemistry.”
Tim Harcourt, Chief Creative Officer at Studio Lambert, says: “At the heart of The Grand Tour lie humour and a pure love of cars. It has been a great pleasure for us to bring that spirit to the screen with a brilliant new trio, on a journey scattered across the globe from Angola to Malaysia and from California to Didcot Parkway.”
With millions of subscribers, “Throttle House” duo Thomas and James have built a global fanbase by reviewing new and classic cars with their own witty and daring approach. Thomas, a Canada-based motoring journalist and amateur racing driver, specialises in high-performance vehicles, while James combines his passion for cars with a distinctive taste of his own.
With a social media following of around six million, Francis Bourgeois is one of the world’s best-known trainspotters, and also a trained mechanical engineer who gained experience at Rolls-Royce. His ability to identify a car’s make from the sound of its engine alone, together with his deep technical knowledge, brings a unique and infectious energy to the team.
The new team arrives with warmth, energy and fresh ideas. The Grand Tour returns to Prime Video later this year and will be available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The executive producers for Studio Lambert are Phil Churchward, Tim Harcourt, Stephen Lambert, Alex Renton and Nia Yemoh, while the production executives were announced as Hilary Berkshire and Diana Focke.
