More than 1,000 art lovers visited the exhibition at Türkiye İş Bankası’s Edremit branch in just two days.
The latest stop for the Anatolian Exhibitions, which bring themed selections from the Türkiye İş Bankası Art Collection to art lovers across Anatolia, was the Edremit district of Balıkesir on 22–23 November. Over the two days it was open, the exhibition welcomed more than a thousand visitors.
Bringing together works depicting the Aegean’s olive groves, its sea and its fishermen – among the richest sources of inspiration in Turkish painting – “Ege Havası” (Aegean Air) offered viewers the region’s matchless landscapes, the daily life of its generous people and its serene spirit. The selection, featuring works by master artists including Fahrettin Arkunlar, İbrahim Çallı, Elif Naci, Veysel Günay, Eşref Üren, Nuri Abaç, Agop Arad, Ömer Faruk Taner, Gönül Göle, Turan Erol, Fikret Mualla and Orhan Peker, attracted great interest from art lovers.
Prof. Dr. Gül İrepoğlu, Founding Curator of the Türkiye İş Bankası Museum of Painting and Sculpture, spoke about the artists and works on display. At the exhibition, held in the Edremit branch – designed by the architect Giulio Mongeri and one of the finest examples of early Republican architecture – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y. Doğan Çetinkaya also took visitors through the construction and early years of the historic building with the help of photographs. An art workshop for children was held as part of the exhibition as well.
One of the regular activities of the Türkiye İş Bankası Museum of Painting and Sculpture’s learning programmes, the Anatolian Exhibitions bring our shared cultural heritage to today’s generations in the very lands where it was born, and will continue with new selections.
