“The X-Files”, one of television’s cult classics, is returning in a new version from Ryan Coogler. Greenlit by Hulu, the new series will stream on Disney+ as a Hulu Original.
Starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, the series follows two highly accomplished but very different FBI agents who are assigned to a long-dormant unit investigating unexplained paranormal phenomena, and who form an unexpected bond.
Produced by 20th Television in association with Proximity Media under the Onyx Collective banner, the series sees Coogler write and direct the pilot and serve as executive producer, with Jennifer Yale also executive producing. “The world Chris Carter created is truly special,” says Coogler. “We wanted to honour everything that made the original so beloved while bringing our own perspective to this universe.”
The original “The X-Files” ran for 11 seasons and 218 episodes and won 16 Emmy and 5 Golden Globe Awards. Details of the new series are being kept under wraps for now.
