“Afife”, a co-production by Afife Tiyatro and Zorlu PSM, continues to meet audiences in Istanbul and Ankara after two sold-out seasons. The play will be staged at Zorlu PSM’s Turkcell Stage on 10 November, and in Ankara on 6–7 November and 25–26 December as part of its Türkiye tour.
Bringing the life of Afife Jale to the stage in a contemporary interpretation, the play is set backstage at a multicultural theatre company in occupied Istanbul. Conceived as a revolt against an order that barred women from appearing on stage, it conveys Afife Jale’s passion for the theatre and her courageous resistance to today’s audiences.
Designed by Serdar Biliş and Demet Evgâr and directed by Serdar Biliş, the production features Demet Evgâr, Tilbe Saran, Necip Memili, Bora Akkaş, İdil Sivritepe, Bedir Bedir, Orkuncan İzan, Ekremcan Arslandağ, Öyküsu Okur, Basma Seiba, Bilge Çınar and Atılgan Gümüş.
“Afife” received the Haldun Dormen Special Award at the Afife Jale Theatre Awards.
