Angelin Preljocaj, one of contemporary dance’s leading choreographers, returns to Istanbul after nine years with his version of “Swan Lake”. Organised by Tatlı Ekşi Production, the Ballet Preljocaj production will be staged in Türkiye for the first time with three performances at Zorlu PSM on 10, 11 and 12 December 2026.
Premiered in France in 2020, the work preserves the legacy of Petipa and Ivanov while moving the story into today’s struggle between power, capital and nature. In Preljocaj’s version Odette is a young woman committed to protecting nature, Siegfried is the son of an executive at a company selling oil-drilling platforms, and Rothbart is a ruthless businessman who discovers fossil fuel reserves around the lake and wants to seize the land.
Performed by 26 dancers over 110 minutes, the production pairs Tchaikovsky’s score with electronic music by 79D. Video design is by Boris Labbé, lighting by Éric Soyer and costumes by Igor Chapurin.
Preljocaj founded his company in 1984 and has created works for the Paris Opera Ballet, New York City Ballet and La Scala. He received the Istanbul Theatre Festival Honorary Award after presenting “Fresk” in Istanbul in 2017.
