The Don Quixote musical, co-produced by Çolpan İlhan & Sadri Alışık Theatre and Piu Entertainment, is meeting audiences in five cities this season. Having reached 100,000 spectators in its first 40 performances, it became the fastest production to hit that figure.
Adapted from Cervantes’ immortal work, the musical is directed by Işıl Kasapoğlu with musical direction by Volkan Akkoç. Starring Selçuk Yöntem and Zuhal Olcay, the large-scale production features a 30-strong cast of dancers and actors, a 15-piece live orchestra and a total team of 80.
After open-air performances in Bursa and Antalya in September and Istanbul shows at Zorlu PSM Turkcell Stage and AKM Türk Telekom Opera Hall in October, the tour’s December stop will be Ankara.
Adapted from Dale Wasserman’s 1959 television play and first staged in 1965, the Don Quixote musical ran for 2,328 performances on Broadway and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
