The 10th Çanakkale Biennial opened on 10 October under the title “Metcezir // Ebb & Flow”. Running until 20 November 2026, it brings together more than 60 artists from 9 countries, with exhibitions and events spread across 15 venues from the city centre to Troy, and from Ayvacık to Assos and Küçükkuyu.
The biennial takes the movement of ebbing and rising water as a metaphor for the constant transformation of memory, geography and time. Shaped around water, soil, memory and transformation, the programme combines new productions, international collaborations and local partnerships.
Main venues include MAHAL, StudioMAHAL and DemirHAN in the former bonito warehouse district, the Troia Foundation’s Korfmann Library and the Troy Museum. Mavi Ev in the bazaar, the ASTİM industrial zone and the Balıkhane, hosting a selection centred on water and the sea, are also part of the programme, while outside the city the village of Yukarı Tartışık in Ayvacık, the Adatepe Olive Oil Museum in Küçükkuyu, the Güneşane Foundation in Assos and İda Blue Adatepe take part.
The “Special Focus: Ceramics” selection, dedicated to Çanakkale’s ceramic heritage, treats ceramics as a material bound up with memory, archaeology, history and transformation, presenting work by artists of different generations at the Troy Museum, MAHAL, the Korfmann Library and Mavi Ev. Launched in 2006 with its first edition in 2008, the biennial reflects 20 years of accumulated experience in its 10th edition.
