The main venue of the 19th Istanbul Biennial, organised by İKSV, has been announced. Curated by artist and curator LIU Ding and art historian and curator Carol Yinghua LU, the biennial will take place from 18 September to 14 November 2027, with Artİstanbul Feshane as its main venue.
As part of their research, the curators invite artists of all disciplines to apply to an open call with project proposals that focus on the effects of war. Aiming to open a space for thinking together about war and peace, the call is open to artists working in any discipline in Türkiye and abroad.
“Art cannot end wars or resolve their root causes,” the curators write in their invitation, “but it can make room for dissent, doubt and the imagining of alternatives.”
Applications can be submitted in Turkish or English through İKSV’s online application system until 23:59 on Sunday 22 November 2026, and must include a project proposal of no more than 3,500 characters and a portfolio. The biennial’s conceptual framework is expected to be announced in December 2026, with all venues to follow.
