“Beyond the Visible”, the 13th solo exhibition by Burcu Perçin, opened at Akaretler Sıraevler on 24 October. Launched alongside the “Collectors” edition of Artweeks Istanbul, it runs until 8 November 2026.
The exhibition presents a new project growing out of the artist’s “Change of Direction” series, which has focused on the oceans and the underwater world for the past two years. Extending the space captured by photography through painting, Perçin brings land and underwater worlds together on a single pictorial plane.
The works consist of oil interventions on photographs taken by the artist herself. Seen from a distance they read as a single, seamless image; up close, the distinction between the smooth surface of the photograph and the tactile presence of the oil paint comes to the fore.
The underwater world takes its place alongside the wild forests, industrial sites, marble quarries, gardens and ancient ruins Perçin has explored in her earlier practice, as part of the same pictorial universe.
